Can i wear hunter boots in winter

Their flagship product is a rain boot, after all. Latex rubber is completely waterproof and so will keep your feet dry in damp weather. Rubber reacts differently to the cold than many other materials. Most materials contract when cold. Rubber actually expands even more than usual in the cold. The polymers stretch out and the material expands. If the polymer bonds break, cracks can form. There are anti-oxidants that can be added to rubber to slow the process of cracking, but they can only do so much.

Keep in mind that hunter boots only come in whole sizes. Because they are a bit clunky, you should go down if you usually wear a half size. A little snug is better than too big in this case.

Hunter boots are available in a variety of calf circumferences. If the original is a bit tight for you, there is an adjustable fit that can extend a bit.

The wide leg is very roomy. If the original is a bit loose for you, there is a slim fit. While Hunter boots are available only in whole sizes, they are true to size; neither too big nor too small.

Some find them a little on the big side but on the whole, fairly accurate. Like most rubber boots, they do stretch some. You may have to wear the boots for a while to get them broken in. A shoe tree might stretch them a little. Keep in mind that sizes among the various Hunter boots may vary slightly.

United Kingdom sizes are two sizes smaller than in the U. They will usually list both sizes plus EU and Japanese shoe sizes. They do have a boot specifically for people with wider calves. The adjustable boot when fully extended has a calf circumference of For those with extremely thick legs, the wide leg boot has a calf circumference of a hair more than sixteen inches. There is an adjustable model with a buckled gusset on the back. One such option that I would recommend is the Moneysworth Felt Sole pictured above.

This insole is made with both felt and aluminum designed to keep your feet warm in below zero temperatures. Another concern many have about wearing their favorite rain boots in the snow is, will they crack? The answer is yes, they can. Think about it. These boots were designed primarily for rain and wet weather not for freezing temperatures.

But if you are still afraid of wearing your rain boots out in the snow and them cracking, it might be better to leave them in storage and bring them out in the spring. I personally think it would be much better to buy myself a nice pair of winter boots. Now it is your turn. What are your thoughts about wearing Hunter boots in the snow?

You guys know I love my leather leggings, faux real. This look is giving me all of the fall vibes but this photo was actually just taken a couple of weeks ago…in the winter! If you own a pair of Hunters, I highly recommend grabbing a pair of these fleece socks for the winter months! Your email address will not be published. I agree with other posters--a wellie, while waterproof, doesn't have the warmth or the grip you need in snow. Brands like Timberland are also good in snowy weather, but more casual.

Even with a lined boot, you may want some wool or cashmere socks for extra warmth in colder weather--leave room for the additional layer! Thanks for all the responses! I am looking for a new pair of boots because my La Canadienne's only go to mid-calf, and I'd like to wear the boots with skirts. I am trying to find some that are leather, knee-high, with good traction but not a high heel.

You would think that wouldn't be too hard, but for some reason every shoe I have found has something wrong with it suede instead of leather, square toe, heel too high, etc. It snows a lot here but it doesn't get super-cold. I am smart enough to know that wellies are not good winter boots. But because they are so cute, I was letting the Zappos comments about their suitability in snow convince me otherwise. I guess it is back to the drawing board!

Louise, thanks for the tip about the glossy boots. They are so cute! I'll also revisit Jean's thread. Me and my friend wore them all last winter I loved them.

But my favorite were my North Face Nuptse Fur boot, very warm and they didn't slip all over the place.
