It has 6 techniques in Shikai and 4 techniques in Bankai which gives it a total of 10 techniques. No wonder he was chosen to be the commander. So I think if he and the Head captain were on the same level I think he would have had the upper hand based on that. Yea but we still dont know what it can do since its being wielded by an idiot. Look back when it was just one sword in the shikai stage, look at how Zangetsu wields it compared to Ichigo; it could have been used to attack long range as well as short range and I'm not talking about Getsuga either.
I know right man. In his fight with Pernida, Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo reveals its latest modification, Matai Fukuin Shotai, whose thousands of nerve strata prevent it from being externally manipulated. This zanpakuto is especially dangerous against opponents who rely on brute strength. Shunsui Kyoraku is an incredibly powerful shinigami, a fact reflected in the complexity of his zanpakuto techniques.
Katen Kyokotsu translates "children's games into reality", giving its wielder an edge because only he knows how the rules work. That said, Kyoraku openly discloses his zanpakuto mechanics to Coyote Starrk and still defeats the Primera Espada, proving that his promotion to Head Captain is well-deserved. Katen Kyokotsu's bankai, Karamatsu Shinju has an enormous area of effect, forcing an atmosphere of doom and gloom on any living entity trapped within its space.
Urahara's Benihime is known for its versatile special abilities—from spawning reishi bombs to engulfing opponents in a nigh-indestructible mesh. He rarely uses his shikai in direct swordfighting , instead preferring to unleash reiatsu blasts from a safe distance. On the other hand, Kannonbiraki Benihime Aratame permits Urahara to partake in close combat by reorganizing the structure of both his environment and himself in order to turn the tides of battle in his favor.
Although he states that his zanpakuto isn't an effective training tool, Benihime can be devastating in a serious fight. Unohana plays the role of medic with her manta-ray Minazuki, healing enemies and allies with equal compassion. After the Wandenreich attack on Seireitei in the Thousand Year Blood War arc, though, Kyoraku insists that she train Zaraki Kenpachi how to manifest his unreleased zanpakuto.
Unohana is a force of nature, beating her successor down hundreds of times, despite the latter increasing in power with every loss. She ultimately brings out her bankai, also named Minazuki, prolonging the battle until Kenpachi reaches his full potential and kills her. It's unfortunate that the most powerful female character in Bleach is relegated to such a humiliating fate.
Kenpachi uses his reiatsu to fuel most of his early fights, but his jagged blade is clearly too weak to take on the Sternritter. In its more advanced Bankai form, the number of blades greatly increases, allowing for more devastating techniques, such as gokei "throat scene".
This is Ichigo's Zanpakuto and is pretty simple. Much like Kenpachi's, this blade greatly enhances Ichigo's speed and power. When attacking, Zangetsu absorbs his spiritual energy, condenses it and then launches this condensed energy from its blade.
Ichigo mainly uses this for his famous Getsuga Tensho attack. Tensa Zangetsu, his Bankai takes this to another level. He becomes faster, stronger and more durable. Shinji is a former member of the Visored and current captain of the 5th division in the Gotei When Shinji spins his sword, a pink mist comes out of it and anybody who smells it gets hit with his sword's ability, "Upside Down World". This ability flips the victim's perception.
Left becomes right, up becomes down and backward becomes forwards. Shinji can even invert his words causing his opponents to become even more confused and disoriented. This ability also inverts the senses of the victims as well. That is, if they were to get cut on their left leg, they would think it was their right leg that received the damage.
Shunsui also holds the distinction of being the captain of the first division, and the former captain of the 8th division. This sword's special ability can force anyone who steps into the range of Shunsui's spiritual pressure into 'playing games'. Shunsui decides the special rules of these games and played a wide range of them during his fight with Coyote Stark. His Bankai takes his opponent into a dark and dreary setting, and damages the opponent in four separate "Acts". Aizen is a former inmate of the prison Muken, having been imprisoned for waging war against the Soul Society in an attempt to become 'God'.
Of course, Aizen is also a former captain and lieutenant of the 5th division of the Gotei Kyoka Suigetsu's special ability, "Perfect Hypnosis", forces any person who looks at the blade to fall under Aizen's hypnosis.
This hypnosis is absolutely inescapable once you fall under its effects, which may last for years and affect many people at once that's how he fooled everyone into thinking Central 46 was still functional. This ability was the foundation of Aizen's plan to become God, and he almost succeeded.
When Yamamoto releases his blade with the command, "turn all creation to ash", flame bursts forth from his sword and anything it comes in contact with, gets burned to ash. Ryujin Jakka's flame burns intensely and engulfs Yamamoto's surroundings, burning anything he wishes. Zanka no Tachi, its Bankai form, condenses all his flames into his blade and anything Yamamoto cuts, gets burned out of existence; nothing remains, not even ash. The flames of Zanka no Tachi are so intense that it even dries up the moisture of anything that comes into contact with Yamamoto's spiritual pressure.
