Mapleshade was a very strong and loyal apprentice and warrior. She gave it everything she had when it came to any opponent, from another warrior to a badger or fox. There were whispers amoung her clan and others that she would be appointed deputy, and then later become leader. Mapleshade had ambition burning inside of her, and she could have had amazing things, until she let that all slip through her paws.
Mapleshade made the mistake of falling in love with a Riverclan Warrior; Appledusk. Mapleshade well hid her love with the Riverclan warrior, until one day, she had Appledusk's kits in the Thunderclan nursurey.
As nobody stepped up as the father, the medicine cat immediately found the same looks of the proud Riverclan warrior, Appledusk. Thunderclan then makes Mapleshade an outcast, and forces Mapleshade and her kits to seek refugee in Riverclan, with Appledusk. The time being leaf- fall, the river was obviously swollen and a challenge to cross. Mapleshade tried to carry her three kits across the river, but fails.
Mapleshade almost gets killed herself trying to save her beloved kits, but fails. The warrior then goes to Riverclan alone, and seeks refugee in the clan's camp. Mapleshade then tried to explain to Appledusk what happened, yet Appledusk blames it all on Mapleshade, and begs his leader to let him stay in Riverclan, in witch she does.
Mapleshade then is an outcast, a loner. Mapleshade developed a pure hatred for Thunderclan and Riverclan alike, and sought to seek revenge, and eventually found the perfect opportunity, while in the Dark Forest.
When Mapleshade saw Crookedkit, an outcast by his mother with uncontrolled ambition, she went for the pounce. Mapleshade walked with young Crookedpaw in his dreams, making him swear loyalty to his clan above all else. At the time, Crookedpaw being so young, didn't understand the diffirence from a clan and one particular cat. Crookedpaw mistakenly made this promise to Mapleshade, and that lead him to moons with Mapleshade.
Mapleshade had told him if you swear to choose your clan above all else, I will make all of your dreams come true. Durning the moons in witch Mapleshade trained Crookedpaw, who eventually became Crookedjaw, she slowly trained Crookedstar into an outstanding warrior, while having to watch everyone who he loved die around him, until Mapleshade was satisfied with her torment.
He should be in the Place of No Stars for all eternity. All those times he said he loved me, all the promises he made—they were nothing but lies! He never wanted my kits, so he let them drown.
He could have saved them, I know he could have! The stench of monsters caught in her throat and made her eyes water, but there were few of the noisy beasts around this early. She only had to wait a few moments before silence fell heavily in the valley and she was able to dart across the hard black stone.
On the other side, she plunged through the long soft grass and into a hedge. She recalled passing a Twoleg den with cows and a dark, hay-scented barn where she and the other apprentices had paused to hunt. She decided to stay well clear this time, in case she ran into any of the other medicine cats traveling early to the Moonstone. After crossing a broad expanse of grass and pushing through another hedge, Mapleshade saw the dark brown tops of some Twoleg dens that looked like the barn.
She swerved to the far side of the next stretch of grass and trotted through a row of trees to where the ground started to slope steeply up. Tilting back her head, she stared at the jagged rocks that marked the top of the ridge. The sun was striking them, turning them rosy and warm-looking, but their outlines still looked like teeth against the pale sky.
She ducked back under the trees and quickly picked up the scent of a mole snuffling in the sunshine. I looked for revenge whenever I could! Why do you think I'm here? You have betrayed me and my kits. You will live to regret this day forever, ThunderClan, and that is a promise. That place is full of weak-willed cowards who clung to the warrior code like ants to a leaf in a puddle.
